Chicago, you’re about to be a grandparent.
Moments ago, Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith were talking about basketball on TNT’s formerly must-see NBA halftime show. Specifically, they were talking about if Kobe or Lebron was a better player. This is an interesting debate with a lot of complications, and Kenny and Chuck are knowledgeable about such things. Then, newcomer Shaquille O’Neill, under the misguided idea that he can speak in public about basketball issues, said this:
“To me, it’s like the classic kung fu movie. You got the old ninja trying to protect his honor, and then you got the new ninja coming up.”
If I’m Charles Barkley, I’m replying thusly:
“First of all, Shaq, first, first of all, Lebron ain’t a new ninja, Ernie. He’s in his 9th season. He’s in his 9th season. He ain’t coming up. He already came up. What Kobe’s got to prove, the first thing on Kobe’s mind, is winning. That Kobe Bryant can still assert himself as a winner. And first of all, Shaq, Lebron…he ain’t a newcomer. Lebron’s got to go out there, he’s got to be aggressive, and he’s got to stop taking a backseat to Dwyane Wade. He’s got to stop deferring so much. And I know it’s team play, and Lebron’s a good passer, but Ernie, he’s got to show he can win games. It’s his 9th season.”
The Worm is coaching a topless women’s basketball team. From SLAM:
My favorite line from the piece: “Rodman, who said he has been a Headquarters customer for more than 30 years, is currently scouting for talent.”
to Derrick Rose, who signed a 5-year, max-dollar contract extension.
And to John-Gar the Barbarian, for not screwing this up.
Bulls fans,
In two years’ time, Carlos the Jackal Boozer might be an aging bum who we’ll have to amnesty and we probably won’t be able to afford to resign The Rise of Taj Gibson. Don’t worry, we have this guy’s rights:
